History::
In 1999 Loud Dust Recordings was founded in Burlington, Vermont
by musician/producer Patrick Shea who now primarily functions as the key A&R
& Licensing liaison at Loud Dust. However, the ideas and skills at the core
of Loud Dust Recordings began as far back as the mid 1980s and continued to be
well refined into the late 1990s. Throughout this period when Patrick Shea was
based in southern New England, not far from NYC, he was regularly collaborating,
performing and generally associating with songwriters, musicians and some music
professionals during recording sessions, rehearsals and performances. This time
period also included developing the music of other songwriters, getting an
introduction to the music business, and frequently spending time reading
anything related to legal and marketing concepts in the world of entertainment.
In 1993 he built his first Project Studio outside of Hartford, Connecticut and
soon found himself spending his evenings and weekends working with bands and
other artists on promotion and producing final masters. Patrick Shea would
later build another Project Studio in Duxbury, Vermont and while perfecting his
approach with other recording artists in the production and engineering of their
music and nurturing their creativity and aspirations, especially songwriters
from outside of the U.S., he quickly saw that the future of the music business
would be digital distribution. After starting Loud Dust Recordings to release
projects he had produced, he was frequently spending more and more time
developing distribution contacts. After many years of building alliances,
including many with the initial Internet business models for music, Loud Dust
has closely observed the components of success, failure, merger and divestiture
that can be experienced by retail and distribution partners. The company has
also benefited from its early relationship over six years ago with the people
and companies that would eventually emerge as the key music brands leading the
way to the future of entertainment in 2006.
Loud Dust Recordings has developed
a solid sense for partnering with the right music brands as well as foreseeing
coming changes in the business. Loud Dust has also seen and participated first
hand in the convergence of the entertainment business whereby the growth of
digital sales considerably outpaces traditional sales, the delivery of
entertainment products becomes increasingly tied to mobile devices, online
services and consumer driven trends, and the evolution and overlap between
broadcast and promotion become even more technologically related. In 2006 Loud
Dust Recordings is a company that can offer a flexible and personal relationship
with its recordings artists while simultaneously providing worldwide and
multi-platform distribution of their music.
